- First 10 minutes: time to organize their binders: stapling, highlighting notes, hole punching, finishing their agenda
- Tutorial Introspection: Have them take out a piece of paper and title it this. Tell them that after I've observed the last few tutorials, I think they don't take them seriously, they don't know how to ask questions and it's not ok. Have them answer the follow questions on their paper:
- Do you think you take tutorials seriously? Why/why not?
- Do your group members hold each other to a higher standard and want you to do better? Who? How?
- Are you disciplined enough to leave your phone in your backpack the entire period? Why/why not?
- What can you do to improve your group and your accountability in Tutorial?
- I've noticed pretty much ALL of you just give the person at the board the answer instead of questioning them and guiding them to the answer. Why is this bad practice? Why don't teachers just give you the answer? Why shouldn't you just give the answer then?
- Why is asking questions in tutorial hard?
- Why do you think AVID came up with the tutorial process?
- Quiz: after that, have them put everything away and take out another piece of paper for a pop quiz
- If there's still time, have them turn the introspection questions into a Cornell Note that will be due tomorrow.
