Biology (Period 1)

Course Description

Course Description: Biology is a one-year life science course.  An appreciation of living forms will enable students to perceive the relationship of organisms to one another and their environment.  Students will also gain an understanding of the chemical components that make up plants, animals, and microorganisms.  This course meets UC/CSU (Laboratory Science-d) requirement.

Course Standards           Students will:           

1.0 Correlate the relationships between matter and energy as they pertain to biological systems.

2.0 Follow the continuum of life from the basic cell through the higher organizational levels.

3.0 Identify classification groups and use classification systems.

4.0 Identify organizational levels of living things (structure and function) and comparative aspects between living things.

5.0 Identify inter-relationships of organisms and their physical environment.

6.0 Use scientific methods and scientific instruments and be familiar with laboratory safety procedures.
