11th GRADE TIME LINE
July – August (prior to Junior Year)
Conduct college and career searches, visit colleges, and learn about specific admissions requirements.
Make up D’s or F’s in summer school.
Get PSAT, SAT Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, and AP schedules (available from www.collegeboard.com and ACT, Inc: www.actstudent.org )
Participate in extracurricular activities.
September
Register for PSAT as practice for the SAT Reasoning Test.
October
Take the PSAT.
Continue college/career search.
Schedule interviews, contact admissions officers, and take tours of different colleges.
November - December
Get PSAT results from counselor and use them to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Review SAT and/or ACT prep materials.
Determine if you need to take SAT Subject Tests and do so as soon as possible after you've completed the corresponding class.
January – February
Begin narrowing college list to 8 - 10 schools (including several with requirements above your current GPA/rank and at least two with requirements below your current GPA/rank).
Try to finalize college list by end of Summer before Senior Year.
Register for Spring SAT and ACT tests, and AP exams.
March
Register for summer SAT and ACT tests (Prospective college athletes who plan to play Division I or Division II sports should use code 9999 when registering to send scores to the NCAA Clearinghouse).
Continue contacting colleges on your list and ask about admissions info, requirements, deadlines, activities.
Start looking for summer jobs/internships/volunteer opportunities/summer school programs at colleges.
April
Participate in the Early Assessment Program (EAP)! This program consists of 15 additional questions attached to your 11th grade CST. Your performance on the EAP will determine whether you are prepared for college level math and English. Doing well will allow you to skip the math and English placement tests required by the CSU!
Talk with teachers and others about writing recommendations.
Continue search for meaningful and challenging summer activities.
May
Take SAT and AP exams as necessary.
Complete a resume of activities, accomplishments, work exp., etc.
June – August
Take SAT and ACT tests.
Prospective college athletes who plan to play Division I or Division II sports, register at the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Practice writing applications, essays, resumes, etc.
Narrow list of colleges to 6 - 10 schools and note admissions req’s.
Create a calendar of all admissions and financial aid deadlines.
Research scholarships online.
Participate in summer internships.
Visit colleges – call in advance for tour/open house dates/times.
Register early for Fall SAT and ACT tests.
Determine if you will apply to colleges’ early decision or early action programs and note application deadlines.
