This site can help you to find lexile for your Outside Reading Book. Remember, this information is due the first school day of each month. If your book is more than 400 pages, see me about needing more time to read. The books you read are listed on your Reading Log, and turned in at least one time per month.

Homework: the expectation is that each student will read 10 pages a night in their outside reading book. If this is done, a students writing skills, vocabulary, and reading comprehension will improve!

If you check out a book at the EHS media center, the lexile is usually in the front page of the book. Confused? Bring your book to me any day at lunch. I help you figure it all out.
This was a former 11th grade student's final project after we studied the art of using persuasive techniques in communication. He created an emotive, powerful ad using many of the literary techniques we studied. He used Pathos, and Logos especially well, and had a strong point-of-view.
DESCRIPTION:
English 9 expands students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in alignment with Common Core State Standards. In addition, this course will provide extensive development of the writing process aligned with the Modern Language Association (MLA) format, critical literary response and analysis skills and cross-curricular study. Students will learn and perfect WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) strategies, including Socratic Seminars, Philosophical Chairs, close reading, and other strategies that promote rigor in order to support the College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards.
This information is helpful if you need a refresher on writing a research paper. For information on how to follow MLA for the paper, use Purdue Owl.
