Welcome to Alternative Education.

I began my teaching career at Elsinore High in 2010. Prior to assuming my new position within the Alternative Education Program I taught several subjects in both the general and special education setting.

I will maintain a respect for the individual needs of students, foster a caring environment, and emphasize the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of each student. My classroom will be tailored to help each student come into confident possession of their innate talents and improve the skills needed for success in both school and personal relationships. As an educator, I will continue to self-evaluate and welcome new concepts and methods of instruction. Under the stewardship of my administration, I will strive to be a balanced and passionate instructor, and will ensure that each student understands their value and purpose within their school and community. I understand the successfulness of any educational program is founded on the collaborative efforts of students, parents, and staff; and with this understanding, I hope to be a great facilitator.

My Hope as Their Educator
My students will learn to be thinkers, but not ones who think out loud. Strive to learn everything, but realize nothing can ever be known for sure. Believe that nothing is absolute, but absolutely defend their beliefs. Understand that chance is prevalent in many aspects of life, but never leave anything important to chance. Be skeptical, but realistic in the face of their own skepticism. Have faith in everyone, but understand not everyone will be faithful. Know that logic makes an argument sound, but also know that passion makes an argument sound logical. Have philosophical beliefs which are informed by logic, and logical beliefs which are informed by philosophy- but don't loose track of which beliefs came first. Think practically, but do not always think about the practical. Be passionate about their interests, but never interested in only one passion. Be giving of their time, but not to the point of forgetting its value. Ambitious, but remember ambition is useless without the support of hard work. Dream often, but be more than a dreamer. Be content but never satisfied. Be an active leader, not an activist. Think everything through completely, but never through thinking about anything. Care for the poor, the weak, and the sick, as others have care for them. Be a study in contradiction, but where there is little inconsistency to be found.

Communication
As much as I would like to utilize technology to facilitate parent involvement and student engagement, I do not want to bombard parents with additional platforms and mediums of communication. As such, I will stick to e-mail, phone, and text.

I look forward to having a wonderful year.
