  1. Read and annotate the article.  Read the attached "How to Annotate" article.
  2. Complete the puzzle.
  3. Answer the questions.  Indicate next to the answer, the paragraph number where you got the information you needed.  Underline that information in the article.  Underline the text that tells you the answer and annotate the margin to indicate that this is answering a question, like #4 for the answer to question #4.

1.   Put your MLA heading on top of the paper.
2.  Number the paragraphs.
3.  Skim the document and read the questions.
4.  Annotate the article
 - Underline main ideas
 - Put an ! next to important information
 - Put a ? next to things you don't understand
 - Circle words you don't know, look them up in the dictionary, and write the definitions in the margin
 - Take notes in the left margin
 - Write your questions/comments in the right margin.
5.  Answer the questions.
 - Indicate in the margin the paragraph number where you found the information that answers the question.
 - Make sure you put a ! next to that information
6.  Choose only one of the writing prompts.
 - Record the GYRR bullets
 - Write your GYRR sentences
7.  Double check EVERYTHING.

Using the Literary Terms file, posted here, your are to approach your parents.  Ask them for permission to attend this Friday's Elsinore/Temescal Canyon football game.  You are to your choise of the three appeals presented in today's lesson: logos, ethos, or pathos.
You are not actually seeking permission.  This is an exercise to understand these three terms and how they will be used in analyzing literature.
