¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español 1!
Welcome to Spanish 1 class!
Spanish 1 is an introductory class that is one year long (2 semesters) and meets the A-G requirements for college preparation.
The class is organized in units that present vocabulary and grammar on context. Students will be introduced to cultural practices and products of different Spanish speaking countries. They will participate in simple conversations, and respond appropriately to basic conversational prompts.
Spanish 1 is focused on the four key areas of foreign language study: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Our goal is to enable students to acquire a language in a natural way, by listening to other people speaking it for a long time. Almost all of our class time will be spent using Spanish--not using English to talk about Spanish.
This is a Comprehensible Input Spanish course. Students receive information that they can comprehend, and grammatical input that are meaningful, inserted in situations they can understand. We use stories , pictures and gestures, all in Spanish.
Our class time will be focused on the acquisition of high frequency structures (the most frequently used words in a language). You can expect between three and six new target structures each week (You will learn more than this, but you will only assessed on the target structures.)
We will use these structures in class discussions, stories, and cultural explorations, and you will be expected to recognize them when you read or hear them and, in time, be able to produce them in speech and writing.
