good evening parents in welcome to back to school night my name is Samantha lawlor I am your child Algebra 1 I teach two subjects here at Elsinore High School Algebra 2 and Algebra 1 Day this year I came to Elsinore High School years ago from Lakeside over at the other go in the sisters that I have been teaching for a very long time I wanted to welcome you tonight and hope that you are able to navigate through this process as I will show you to let you know what your child what we are doing how to go through the modules that happened created and I do make it so that it is self-navigating and you can see the chronological for your child just in case they want asynchronous without being live with me or they can definitely join me live so here we have the algebra one from page the homepage is very similar to my algebra 2 class but I'm going to go ahead and show you how to navigate do this I hear from a student's of you we have the global navigation links here that your child would have the same access to it's just that now is pertaining to his or her supposed to mine course the dashboard is just what you will see for your child to get slightly different it will be just ask for for what he or she is enrolled and then the course of course courses that your child has mold in adjust your algebra 1 b class going back to my homepage I do want to talk about the buttons I've made here so that way your child can have easy access to go and navigate through the pages you can see here you have a weekly work which is the same thing as you are module you can either click here click here they are the same what it is is it gives you the weekly work for planned for this class as you can see here some of these already blocked because it is not yet that's for them to do here we have week 6 which is 9:13 to 9:17 it is under unit one each one will have a title dates that will tell you what is expected for them to do for the specific day so you can see here I also give information when quizzes can be made up what button they need to click on to get to those makeup sessions and also tells you this is a video you should take notes on I often try to do it flipped classroom process because sometimes students may not be able to make it to the live meeting which is why it's nice to be able to have something available for them to take notes for so here is a link and that will take them into what we are covering which is be able to graph a line from a function table and then this is the homework which is designated with hw13 on the right hand side if your child is going through this in order you should see each little piece because it keeps it organized the student should be able to be to see the next item link so that they can move through the module as easy and as we are as fast as you can so you can see here here is Tuesday and tells you to take notes on them this has two videos and then there's homework so this means that when they are done with this during our lives Zoom meeting we will go over these questions examples in the classroom can we go into what the homework looks like and what they need to do in order for them to understand the work and then from there it goes onto the next day and so on will every single day have a video that I have to watch prior to class know I try to do some classrooms as often as I can but just in case we need students who need to be their presents with the teacher to ask my sister Pate we also have life zooms every single day to go over the videos to go over the notes if needed and to go over 80 questions that they may have I also incorporate nearpod which isn't it active digital assignments for students to go through and actually do the activity here for understanding I also once in a while will do that here is an example of what they have to do Excel doors are great because they are videos that they have to pause and think about in order to answer questions it also keeps the students engaged because they have to stay with that video the moment they click out the video pause resumes wants to go back in so this is how it's normally organized for the specific class again the students usually want to do this in the order of which it is described here in the module again on the right hand side after each one has been viewed or each one has been done and submitted a check mark will appear on their module so they can see what I see I need to do and then that way they can self monitor their progress and what would you eat once a week There's usually either a test or quiz to assess what they've learned and sometimes the quizzes are on certain days and some time to test on certain days it happens to end during a weekday half will usually be on either Thursday or Friday and we usually spend about two days reviewing Quest installing over some key Concepts going over some misconceptions and so on so that way they can better prepare themselves for the upcoming tax so the weekly bye week as you can see you can also Laxus so that way it doesn't interfere with your view as it is organized in a backwards process as you can see the very first week is way down here that it moves on to the next week the next week since you are now if we go back to your home page within that same homepage there are other buttons that you may so here are the helpful videos upload meetings that we have on Zoom that I record daily if we do not have a meeting I'm sorry we do not have a record I will put on here no recordings on there or if there is no video there's no video that will put but oftentimes there's always a video that's your child to navigate through on the left hand side. set these videos are a signs as well as some videos from our Zoom class Life Class meetings that you see here if you don't really have any new meetings than I that will go in as a regular Zoom meeting on the side but most of the time if there's anything new in terms of instructions I will record that and I will load as many as I can hear as you can see we done a whole lot of Life meetings lately because it has been in a classroom where students need to come in with questions and answers and then we go over the videos of Wallace the news starter home work until 4 again there are many more days for me to upload but if there's any misunderstanding in terms of where the videos are you can definitely find them all on here on the hill videos on the homepage going back to the homepage we also have resources I mentioned earlier that the students have to take notes for this class in the resource button I've made a page we're all of the notes that we have taken in chronological order are now please here so they should navigate this after the six Challenger I'm still working on trying to find a better way to get this organized but again it's a learning curve me and I'm still trying to get those skills and for myself but this is where all your nose would be if there aren't any notes taking that day it would say none oftentimes that is on the day that would take the test or if we are reviewing notes to write down since we're just going over some old notes for understanding resource button on the phone as well as on the homepage you will see the syllabus that we had to make some modifications to the syllabus because we've decided as a team that the final may not be something that we can commence doing this type of learning so I've made the changes down below to show you where that 5% have travel to which is a which is good for students to do homework waiting for them to check for understanding a category it also has information on here in terms of what sleep we are using we are using the Big Ideas Math how will we communicate resume using to monitor their progress and trees canvas and then these other information here you can just read at your leisure to find out what is available again I do offer to my students I'm just going to 4 p.m. on a daily basis I do try to keep them separated because now that we are in a zoom meeting I will keep the algebra 1B tutoring will be on Mondays and Wednesdays and then I but you will be on Tuesday Thursday unless requested By Appointment switch in addition to the homepage you can see on here as well other resources I do have two other teachers that I work with mr. After school again Tuesdays and Thursdays otherwise by so this is my homepage for Algebra 1 the modules the same thing it takes you to your weekly assignments I've also put on quick link for them to go to their Office 365 this is not the syllabus I showed you earlier this is actually just a course summary of what they are signs on that day when is it Dubai and so on so forth so it's a great tool for them to see what they are expected to do as you go through the week and then on the right hand side it also gives them the total waste for the this is just you syllabus in a different form of your actual claimants and so on I also put on here the clever link which is a great tool for them to go to sometimes you will have to use other resources Journal resources for them to learn the one of them is Desmos or setup will be slightly different however because this is a math class if you scroll down worrisome Matthew to see the importance of apps that we use here mainly Desmos and Big Ideas which is the book that we are using for this year and decimals is a graphing calculator app that we use to help students may not have a graphing calculator on hand they can always go here to use which is really cool because it does a lot of you can see the grass lot easier than if you were using a TI-84 or a TI-89 graphing calculator so this page to go to the need to use other resources sometimes I will be using external resources to help for interventions such as Khan Academy or or using explain everything that I have I have also have set up to you're the worst and to send the students if they need and also I put Infinite Campus on my clever so that we have easy access as well as the Office 365 and everything else here again the grades your child or yourself you can always check on the grave to see what the status is this test students here so on the right hand side and gives you again category wait for the specific class gives you the score gives you what it is and you can see hear it starts from the when we started some kind of work for the sauce and then it goes all the way down in chronological order you'll start seeing some missing so that way it can give you an idea of what your child is missing and then click on that you can see what that item is regarding late work late Worth to be turned in within the unit so if we're doing homework 14 and the last homework for that unit is homework 22 Frances you can turn in homework 16 all the way up until the day of the test for partial credit and not partial credit is 50% the reason why is want to hold students accountable for doing the work during the time of which it is a sign we understand that there are situations out there that may need some time but you can also email me in the global links over here as you can see there's inbox here with directly goes to my mobile so that way I can get immediate information however some time has passed certain times I will look at later preferably in the morning when I come back and start again but quick ways to email here through town this is through the inbox if you don't want to go through canvas you can also email me through the school are the Schools email regularly if you need some time or maybe your internet is not working and you need the extra time for that or you know whatever situation that is happening out there again I'm flexible I will make the combinations of long as I know in advance what is happening and that you also communicate with me so that way I'm not lost in this Darkness trying to do things when I'm glad you can see the student here is missing a lot lots of lots of work but again it is in chronological order you can click on the item will take you to the item students will take you to the item that they are supposed to do and they can navigate through that so again this is also a link for your child to check into infant on a daily basis, so this is pretty much what you need to know in order for you to navigate through this home page I tried to make it as easy to navigate by following the days we are selling it up where if the child is absent on certain days they can go back and look at that as well The To Do List on the right hand side it's a great way to know what you still need to do as you are trying to be successful in this class and do everything that you need in order for you to learn algebra 1B so this is the navigational homepage that you would need for Algebra 1 be on canvas I also sometimes use my explain everything and when I use my explain everything I usually try to link it with my iPad because it's one way from me able to show them in a digital form so Zoom I'll usually try to go on here and work through some problems with I can see how to do the work for instance there's an example of what we did for review what we did for review and that way they can see the work and I load this up onto my OneDrive but again I'm still trying to find out where it went because I can't seem to find it anyways this is also another way for me to teach your child after doing the work live in person or if they want to help during the tutoring button after school I hope I've answered any
