Re: COVID-19 and School Closures and what online or ‘distance learning’ resources are available for TK-12 students at home?

Dear Parents & Students:

Re:  COVID-19 and School Closures and what online or ‘distance learning’ resources are available for TK-12 students at home?

Recognizing the tenuous nature of living with COVID-19 while implementing directives for Distance Learning, LEUSD is ensuring the most flexibility possible for the health & safety of all. I will be supporting our World History students with District Distant (Online) Enrichment Activities and/or teacher created (Online) enrichment activities. Visit the LEUSD Enrichment Courses available here: https://www.leusd.k12.ca.us/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1695720&type=d&pREC_ID=1856778

All instruction is virtual: Absolutely no paper should be exchanged between teacher and students. Our World History Class will utilize: District Distant Enrichment Activities Online, Teacher Created Enrichment Online, Class Website, Parent Square, District E-Mail, Zoom Video etc. Mr. Caballero will use the Class Website for updates, so please check our Class Website daily. *All of my World History students have been instructed to use our Class Website since we started the 2019-2020 school year: https://ehs.leusd.k12.ca.us/apps/classes/931954/assignments/

Our Class Website and Parent Square will be the primary modes of communication. I would also like to add Zoom for students to ask questions and receive support. I will update our Class Website for more direction and support as we move forward. The District will provide students with the equipment necessary for Distance Learning to the extent that it is possible. Please be patient and flexible with your students and teachers as we navigate this new Online Distant Enrichment opportunity. We are bound to make mistakes as we move forward. However, we can adapt and move forward together. Please know our District is doing everything they can to help support your student during this difficult time. We are better together and we will move forward with our Elsinore High Values of Tradition, Caring and Respect. I have been teaching at Elsinore High for about 20 years. I can tell you first hand, our District is here to support our families through this crisis and I am proud to be your students’ teacher.

I have created some Frequently Asked Questions & Answers to help orientate parents and students around my plan for our World History class:

Frequently Asked Questions & Answers:

What about Grades?

The District is ensuring the most flexibility possible. This means that students are “held harmless” and shall not receive a lesser grade than their current grade as of March 13, 2020. These grades have been updated on Infinite Campus and will be recorded on April 9, 2020.

How can students who are failing or students seeking to earn a higher grade still have opportunities to improve their grade?

Students will be provided online Distant Enrichment opportunities. However, these enrichment activities or teacher created enrichment cannot be required; they are entirely voluntary on the part of the student. In addition, if the student has a grade recorded on April 9, 2020 of a “D/F” they would also have a “Pass/Fail Option” as a Final Grade. This means the student is able to choose a “Pass/Fail” mark in lieu of a letter grade. However, Students with A, B, or C must receive a letter grade and cannot use Pass/Fail mark.

When can students contact Mr. Caballero for support with District Enrichment Activities?

Mr. Caballero will be available via District E-mail/Parent Square, from the hours of 10am-3pm each school day. But please reach out ANY time and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Where will Enrichment Activities be posted?

All of our World History assignments have been and will continue being posted on our class website: https://ehs.leusd.k12.ca.us/apps/classes/931954/assignments/

How can students and parents contact Mr. Caballero?

Students and parents may contact Mr. Caballero via District E-mail/Parent Square: [email protected]
