Assignment

Thursday and Friday (Nov 29/30): JOY IDEAS Brainstorm

I think it's time that we ask ourselves, "What are we doing for other students on this campus?"

Step 1: Watch this video https://vimeo.com/226824506/27e5ff0e60

Step 2: Read directions:
Answer the question: What can we do for the students on this campus before Christmas? The holidays are sometimes hard for people (kids and adults) because their lives aren't so "merry and bright" and it brings up a lot of tension in families, etc. SOOOO...what can we do that might spread a little cheer to our campus. How can we bring just a little bit of joy?

Rules:
- can't cost any money
-this isn't a contest
-must be done before Christmas
-must involve the whole class (maybe even the other ASB classes if you're ambitious!)
-should last at least a week; 2 weeks if want! (So Dec.3-Dec.14?)
-cannot interrupt finals week
-you can pull in ASB kids from Temp/Renee/Asbury's class if you want this to be really big or you can take on the project yourselves- just our class.

Step 3: Brain Storm:
Use the white boards, get into groups, branch out of your little clicks- we're all family now! Brainstorm! LISTEN to each other's ideas.

Step 4: Send a Mrs. Bremer a Remind:
Your Joy Idea has to be confirmed by the end of 4th period on Friday, Nov. 30th. Someone send me a Remind to tell me the idea, who's involved, when you're planning it, how you're going to do all of this :)

Assignment

Welcome back everyone!

Sorry I'm not there (sad face), but I'll see you soon! I'll be using this website to communicate with you as much as possible. Check here for dates for things, like Festivus. You don't want to miss out on that!

Here's your assignment for today:

I wanted you guys to reflect on the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break...

Prompt:
Go back to the moments of thankfulness we shared, the meal we shared, the stories we've all told. In your ASB journal (yes, you get a grade for them at the end of the semester), just take about 20 or 30 minutes to explain why you think it was so important for us all to connect on the level we're at and why is it so important to tell your story. This type of writing requires you to be deep in the moment- so get your headphones, go to a quiet space, get in your thoughts. Here's some more questions to answer if you need help:

Who's story was most inspiring?
Who's story could you connect to the most?
Who's was the most unexpected?
What did you learn from others?
What does this tell you about how to connect and bring other students into our connectedness on our campus?
HOW can WE help our campus become more connected and not just "surface-y" friends? What are some practical ideas?

This might take you more than one period. That's ok. You'll have time this week.

Love you guys and miss you. I'm so, so proud of each and every one of you.

Love,
Mrs. Bremer

Assignment

When you walk into class on Friday, you should have completed your character challenge and your personality challenge.

Character Challenge: go out of your way to make someone you haven't talked to in a long time and let them know you've been thinking about them somehow. This isn't a random person, this is someone you've been meaning to reach out to and you know that they would benefit from hearing from you. This could be a card, call, care package, anything creative.

Personality Challenge: talk to 3 different people about your personality.
-1st person is someone who is always your cheerleader no matter what (they'll always be postive).
-2nd person is someone who will tell you how it is, even if it's hard to hear. You know they'll be honest and healthily critical.
-3rd person is someone who you have recently met- ask them what they're perspective on your personality is because they might have noticed something different than the other 2 people.

Record your answers in your ASB Journal.

Be prepared to report back to the class :)
