Grades and final project

Hello, I just wanted to remind parents and students that grades are set (no rounding) unless students are completing the final project due June 2 3pm. Students, please send me a message if you have questions or need further guidance on the final project in the last few days.

Last two assignments

Creative project: 20 extra credit points in the homework category. (even if you have an A in the hw category, extra credit will still raise your grade)

Complete ONE Project (examples below). It  must be original, school appropriate and not plagiarized. It must be related to calculus  content we have studied this school year. It can be based on one topic or of multiple topics. If you have any questions or concerns please message Mrs. Leibold

Game: create a game based on a particular chapter/topic or multiple ones. The game can be  physical and you can send me a video explaining it showing off the cards/pieces etc or it can be electronic.

Story book: Illustrations and appropriate calculus  related story line. You can send me a video reading it or pictures of all of the pages.

Song: Can be based off an existing song but with your own lyrics. Send me a picture of the lyrics and a video of you performing it.

Movie—This is something usually students tackle as a group but if you want to do something like this that is fine

Computer program: If you have background in programming and want to write a program based on something we have learned this would be an option.

Something else? Clear with Mrs. Leibold

Career presentation (20/20 TEST points, not extra credit but still gives you another A in the test category):

Please do some research on a particular career that is related to calculus. Find information on specifically how is calculus used in the field, what education and experience you need to get into the field, salaries, day to day work.etc. Please make sure you list your sources. Make a powerpoint or use some other presentation tool. You can have someone video you presenting or you can record your voice on the slides.

**If you want to ensure you get all 20 points you can have me check it over prior to the due date

Calculus end of the semester

I hope you all survived yesterday's AP test. I should have your tests to look at in the next couple of weeks. Awesome job to those that completed all the practice FRQs for points and many raised their grade around 10%!  There is still one more project that can be completed to raise your grade. I'm hoping to have the details posted by the end of the week. A few items to take care of

Returning STUFF:
Please check parent square for when to turn in your textbooks, workbooks  (don't forget the 5 to a 5 book that came with our textbook), uniforms, etc. During textbook turn in you are to also turn in your 1. calculator (with charging block and cord), 2.any books you borrowed from me (sample exam grey book, practice book, calculus and pizza, etc), and the 3. LETTER TO YOURSELF.

LETTER TO YOURSELF
Every year I have my calculus students write themselves a letter that I will mail back to them two years later. You can write whatever you wish, I will not be reading the letters. Please seal your letter in an envelope (you do not need postage, I will take care of that) with the return address as:

Elsinore High School-Mrs. Leibold
21800 Canyon Dr
Wildomar, CA 92595

For the TO address please write your name and then underneath C/O (your parents name or whatever relative you believe will be in their same household in the next two years) and then the address. I will post a picture later of an example as well.

Please message me if you have questions regarding any of this
Thanks, Mrs. Leibold

4 more days

4 more days to finish the practice tests, raise your grade and prepare for the AP test. Please make sure you are timing yourself and grade with a plus ____ on each part a, b,c . Trust me you will be better prepared for the actual test doing it that way. Send me a message if you don't understand something or if you want to go over certain types of problems.

2 weeks

2 weeks until your AP Calc test: May 12, 11am. Login at 10:30am. 2 weeks left to complete practice tests to raise your grade. After the AP test there will only be a larger project for those interested to raise your grade.

AP tests are 2 weeks away!

Hello Parents of AP Calculus students,
AP tests are two weeks away and as I was checking grades of students many of them are close to jumping to the next grade level (C to a B, or a B to an A etc) . I have posted many practice FRQ tests for students to complete that will improve their grade and also help them to pass their AP Calc test giving them college credit. As of now in the class no students have taken advantage of this (or at least submitted their work) and I have sent them messages on remind (mass and individual), posted on my website, sent parent squares etc. Please talk to them. I know this is a very difficult time and most are seniors but I do want to make sure with all the hard work they have already done that they keep it going for just a few weeks longer. If they need help with any problems I can send them videos and help with the work. Also AP is doing weekly review on their you tube channel too. Please let me know how I can help your child in these next few weeks. I hope your families are staying healthy during this time period.
Thanks,
Nikola Leibold

Distance learning update

AP Calculus AB

Hello Calculus parents and students:

The grades currently posted in IC are the 9 week progress report grades and to remind you that grades cannot decrease from here on. I have already dropped one quiz from the gradebook but will not be dropping a second since there are no more mandatory assignments. If your child has already missed two they will not be penalized.

OLD work: All textbook assignments are open in canvas and can be completed for partial points if missing up until April 30. Please remember the assignment given for spring break is mandatory and must be completed also by April 30. This is one full AP test timed and graded. I have added in the 5 points extra credit if students attended on of the UCR trips earlier this semester and will still honor if someone would like to do a volume project for that 5 points if they were not able to attend the trips (due April 30—email me for details).

NEW work: I will be posting new assignments and projects for CREDIT on canvas at the end of this week and for the remainder of the time. Please check canvas a few times a week to keep updated. Remember you will not be penalized if you don’t complete them but to prepare for your AP test I highly suggest you do. As you are working through the material if you have questions please contact me via email, canvas, or remind. I just added some FRQ practice tests timed and graded in the quiz category. Most new work will be due at the latest May 11 as our AP test is May 12. I may assign an optional final project due after the test and will give out more details later.

AP TEST DATES:

You should have gotten an email from collegeboard as well as a parent square from Mr. Puig going over the new test dates and format for each test. The AP board has youtube study sessions weekly reviewing different topics. I highly suggest you watch these weekly for all of your AP classes. If you cannot take the test on the first given date and need the makeup date in June please contact Mr. Puig ASAP. Both AB and BC are scheduled for Tuesday May 12 at 11am. Please make sure you are ready to go and logged in ahead of time.

AP TESTING AND OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

Hello AP CALCULUS!
I miss you all and hope you are safe at home:

Please read:
April 3 collegeboard will have more information on AP dates. It looks like you will have two dates to choose from per test and you will be able to test from home. There are links to you tube channels to do test reviews beginning this Wednseday.

**BC student please be reviewing through the rest of the material. Khan academy has a BC course. You can register for free as a student and there are practice quizzes and tests for each unit.

Grades:
I am allowed to count the break assignment that I gave to you before we left. One full practice test timed. Please read instructions on calculator vs no calculator. Then grade and score it. 20 points in the quiz category. I'll put it in cavas due next Monday, however, if you need more time than that just let me know, it will not be counted as late.
***Any other practice tests you complete, please time accordingly and save them in case I am allowed to count them later. I would have assigned many other tests both MC and FRQ and counted in the quiz category. The FRQs on AP central are the best ones to practice FYI.

I honestly do not know what will happen with grades for the rest of the term. I will keep you all posted with update!
