Hello parents and students,
Welcome to your high school auto shop!
I'm Mr. Filar, and I’m thrilled to be teaching your student this year. I have 31 years of experience in the automotive industry, in almost every facet—from auto parts to auto technician, race car builder to parts manufacturing, and product development to brand management.
My wife of 25 years and I have a 10 year old son and 16 year old daughter. My small family are all huge outdoor enthusiasts. We love camping and all share a passion for off-road toys and motorsports. I have a long history in off-road motorsports and I've even won the Baja 1000 five times across four different classes.
I'm looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
In the classroom and out in the shop, we’ll learn:
But most importantly, we’ll focus on building their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
We’ll also work on employability skills like communication, teamwork, and professionalism to prepare students for career life, outside of high school.
Often in desert racing, we find ourselves in remote locations, over 50 miles from our support teams. That’s usually when our truck breaks down. It’s up to the driver and co-driver to diagnose the issue and find a solution. We’ll do whatever it takes to get that truck back in the race.
My class operates the same way.
I’m committed to ensuring your student leaves with the critical thinking tools, problem-solving skills, and confidence to tackle life’s challenges and succeed in whatever career path they choose.
Thank you, parents! I’m looking forward to an amazing school year and can’t wait to teach your student.
