Course Description

Spanish 2 Natives is a one year, college preparatory course in which students will further develop and use reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, in the target language. Each student will use the language to engage in informal communication to express interests, ideas and concerns in reference to self and others. Students will continue to explore cultural diversity of Spanish speaking countries. This course meets the district graduation requirements for Fine art/Foreign Language. This course meets UC/CSU (LOTE-e) requirements.

AP Spanish Language and Culture is an advanced-level course that allows students to develop their communication skills and intercultural understanding as they focus on six specific themes of study: 1) Global Challenges, 2) Science and Technology, 3) Contemporary Life, 4) Personal and Public Identity, 5) Families and Communities, and 6) Beauty and Aesthetics. Through these interdisciplinary themes, students will become more informed of current topics and the benefits and challenges faced in different Spanish-speaking areas of the world and among the different cultural groups. Student will listen to and read from a variety of authentic sources and engage in real-life situations in order to develop proficiency across the three modes of communication: Interpretive (how the student interprets was is read or heard); Interpersonal (how students communicate with each other to clarify meaning); and Presentational (how students create messages that allow others to interpret the information). The course is conducted primarily in Spanish, incorporating content and related grammatical structures relevant to the communicative tasks. The course is designed to prepare students for the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam given in May of each year.
