MORE THAN JUST A FIELD TRIP

While field trips have been a staple in primary and secondary education, they are currently on a decline, as museums throughout the U.S. have reported a significant decrease in student traffic.

Alternative education leans on the efficacy of field trips as learning tools as well as means of stimulating student engagement and pairing this engagement with career interests. Our visits allow students of Elsinore's Alternative Education Program to experience new activities not readily found in school. It is a form of experiential learning that exposes students to concepts discussed in class first hand and access to pick new knowledge through extended interactions with working professionals.

Student's within Elsinore's AEP report elevated interests in the subject matter explored along with a renewed appreciation for the support and guidance offered by faculty. An aim of alternative education is to place student's into confident possession of their innate skills and realistic passions.

Provide high-quality craftsmen to our contractors in a timely manner, enabling them to engage in a competitive market.      Field Trip
Visiting Local Union 364 was motivated by Robert's interest in pursuing a career in welding. Our visit offered our students the opportunity to learn about welding in a more hands-on and immersive way than they could within the traditional classroom setting.

This experience really got me thinking about what I want to do as a career in the future. I received a tour and the place was very professional. I learned that welding is harder than it looks and that it's important to become professionally trained.

Kevin Boggs (second left)
I would highly recommend visiting Local 364 because you can train to become a professional welder within the pipefitters union. I really enjoyed all the cool tools and machinery and the way everything was manufactured and constructed. Sparks were flying.

Mr. Maricic (center)
Mr. Shefts was comprehensive, engaging, informational and well spoken. He took the time to learn each student interests and connect them with job responsibilities found within the industry. Jason celebrated our student's commitment to learn more about his industry and offered to help connect interested students with industry representatives. His presentation was so powerful, our program will continue to visit Local 364 on an annual basis. The benefits conferred would not have been made possible without the assistance of our career coordinator Karyn Basler as she organized the event.

Joshua Hudson (center right)
I didn't know I would have an interest in welding or pipefitting. I didn't wear pants so I was not able to see the inside of the welding center, but the Union President gave me a special tour where I could see all of the blue prints for their upcoming projects. I'm much more interest in the design part of the business.

Darrin Pleasure (furthest right)
This field trip allowed me to really get to know my classmates. I am new to the program. Even though I'm not really interested in becoming a welder, I like knowing I can ask to visit a career interest for myself.

Alicia May (hiding from photo)
I was impressed with how welcoming the staff were. They allowed our students to sit in the boardroom and meet with a union representative. They promote and encourage the hiring and training of women.

SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION
Ethan Critchfield
Mrs. Basler took me to the Social Security office to receive a replacement social security card. I needed this card in order to get a job, my real personal identification card, my drivers permit, and to get paid as an intern through our job coaching program.

LANDLORD / TENANT
          Testimonials

Ethan C.
Prior to this visit I was considering two other places to rent from. Since this visit, I've added this location to my list of favorite places to live. I found the experience very nice and welcoming. They treated me well as a visitor. The leasing person answered all of my questions in a professional manner.

Amielle L.
The representative from the complex made me want to rent an apartment and also helped me learn more about apartments. This includes the things I can and cannot do. I also really liked the fake cake in the model floor plan.

Emma H.
I really liked how informative the tour was and how the property manager informed us about all the laws that go into getting an apartment including the specific rules and regulations that go with the complex and how she gave really good tips in the future on what to do in preparation to leasing an apartment. How communication between the tenant and leasing office is key to ensuring a positive experience.

Aziel T.
The touring agent did a really nice job of explaining how things work there: you can't be loud, need to follow apartment rules and make your payments on time.

Mason D. (not pictured)
This trip helped students like myself understand the rule of this apartment complex including different types of lease agreements, deposits, subleasing, pets, and insurance. It's really nice to learn these things in person instead of simply reading about them in class.

Joshua H.
I think the apartment complex tour went well. I learned a lot of information about how it is run, rules, policies, leases, and vouches. I think that I'm looking forward to living in the complex when I turn 18. A value of the apartment tour is that it teaches you about living. A benefit is that I know more about living costs and other necessities.

Kennie L.
I learned a lot on this trip. I learned my favorite dog breed is not allowed on the premises. Also the fact that the agent was honest even if it would have scared away possible customers was nice. The rooms and apartments themselves were very high quality. I honestly preferred the two bedroom to the three bedroom. 10/10 I would recommend.

Sam M.
For being my first-time touring an apartment complex, it was a very delightful and eye-opening experience. Getting to know how the real-world works has been very insightful. Before, I thought that renting an apartment was easy and quick, but I've found out that it i a very meticulous and complex procedure. But I'm not saying that a thorough process is a bad thing, because if there weren't the procedures in place, it would be a very different situation. I'm glad that I was able to go on this trip, because if I didn't learn about all the rules and technicalities, future me would have lost his house.

Sebastian M.
Before this visit to this apartment complex, I was planning before by looking at places online and in-person. This place has been added to the list of areas I might live in for the future. I liked this place, the lady upfront was nice. The rooms are very neat and clean. However, my only take-away is the rent price. Otherwise, the place is good for someone with a high salary and vouchers. I may live here once I graduate and go into college.

Unit 1: everything was pretty good. Except for one of the bathtubs. I don't even know what was in it. Was it mold? Was the sceptic tank broken? Who knows. 4/5
Unit 2: it looked cool. The bathroom connected to one of the bedrooms and the kitchen. No bathtubs with questionable substances inside. I can't remember anything else. 3/5

Ethan C.
This visit helped me to get to know what and how leases work and it showed me how everything that I would need to know for renting. The benefits that come with this is making a living plan for after school putting the things I learned for the future. The values that comes with the visit are I've se the buildings and now that I seen how they treat their visitors it is now up on my places to live after school. I will have to visit apartments on my own time to see if I can and want to live there.

I had a really fun experience. It was very scarry on the ride Hang Time. I thought I was going to fall off the little kid ride because of the sharp turns. The Dip-N-Dots ice cream was good. I had fun being with my class. It's nice to work hard and be rewarded.

I really enjoyed the trip. I thought it was more fun with classmates and staff. It's not too often we get to visit a theme park. It would have been more fun if we stayed longer.
