well good morning seniors and Senior families parents Guardians so we're happy that you guys are here for a virtual senior parent night my name is mrs. Arredondo and one of the principles one of the culprits. Elsinore High School I also have at the meeting miss Robin Hamilton she's the other co-principal we're happy to say this is our fifth year here in Elsinore High School so principles prior to that I miss Hamilton was the assistant principal and then I was the assistant principal 2006 as well so we have a long history with Elsinore High School and we're very proud of the class of 2021 so we wanted to meet tonight to kind of go over just an overview of senior information and deadlines that are coming up and Beyond Beyond High School what you can expect and what you need to be working on this year so just the administration I introduce Miss Hamilton and myself we also have Don Nicholson he's our athletic director so if there's any questions about Athletics you would want reach out to him Miss Shawna pedretti she's our assistant principal and she really helps with the canvas technology so a lot of you have used her as a help desk and mr. Brandon Stephens he helps out as well with with tech at this point the counselors or Miss Johnston Sanchez mr. Lyman mr. Barrera and Miss George so they will all be here this evening doing presentations are career technician is Miss Stacy struck hula and if you haven't met her yet she's going to be your best friend this year cuz she has lots of information my College financial aid scholarship opportunities so you want to make sure that you reach out to here we also have Miss Crystal Hoffman she's Ras B&R cheer advisor so she's going to give you information about senior activities and Senior swag we have Tammy Larsen she's here from Herff Jones so she will be talking to you about ordering caps and gowns and now it's missing and all that good stuff and Cami Wales is here from rpgsa and she will share with you parents on how you can be involved as a senior parent what opportunities. PTSA has for seniors seniors this year so just to kind of go over the agenda for this evening what we're going to review is we're going to review senior senior your information we're going to look at Coast High School options we're going to look at financial aid and give you information and deadlines that are coming up we'll talk about ASD and Senior activities we will give you opportunities how parents can be involved and we will also be talking about that senior swag that scene I love to get this time of year so this is an overview that we're going to go over we are recording this meeting so we will have it up on our website that if there's any information that you didn't get will be happy that you are you can go back and read look at this video just to double-check the information so we'll do our presentation and go through everything first and then at the end we will have a question answer session so we're hopefully we'll get most of your questions answered through the presentation but at the end of you have additional questions we will be happy to be here in answer those for you so now I'm going to turn it over to Mr Cameron Lyman and he's going to go over the high school graduation requirements as they have changed due to the covid-19 yes Miss Arredondo so you mentioned they have questions during so if I'm going through this and someone has a question with me to stop and answer or wait till the end of the end for questions okay so if you are a senior this is probably it better not be the first time that you've ever seen these graduation requirements do you need a total of 210 credits that's going to be your total we're going to go through a kind of check them up kind of pay attention right now to the left hand side of your screen and it's all pretty simplistic but again if you have questions after the zoo many would be the time to ask and make sure that you get the questions answered correctly so it's not at the very top with world history you need to the credits of that which is 1 year US History 10 credits and government you need five we didn't put government in Yukon together just because that's how the screen worked out but you can see econ at the bottom left-hand side of your paper of your screen you need 5 credits of that as well let's move next to the English category you need for years of English to graduate and when I say you need four years it has to be a dear better if they so yes you own this early warning get a d but do you give you five credits and it is a passing grade math you need 30 credits to graduate and I could be a variety of things K algebra geometry math 90 math 96 Algebra 2 so if you have kind of a weird combination math classes that maybe you have a question about stick around and ask a question or you can email your particular counselor separately de Algebra 1 definitely needs to be in that mix of three go to the next one your science category you need 30 credits you need 10 credits of Life can credit the physical and then the last 10 can be 10 of your choice it can be a lie or physical science next we have Fine Art CTE or foreign language every year I have to make sure that I go through and explain this you don't need 10 of each you need 10 one of those three so you could do a sportsman you could do a drawing and painting or you could take a Spanish class and pass okay to earn your 10 credits for that category play the last little Bunch on the and bottom you need 45 credits of electives now that's dropped from 55 due to the pandemic we took 10 off so now you only need 45 credits of electives to graduate I told you about the econ you pair that up with government you need 20 credits of PE and yes you do need five credits of Health that you want to make sure are you high back on your senior schedule if not you definitely need to make sure that you are communicating with your counselor and letting them know that okay Miss Sanchez okay real quick so let's talk a through G and if you are a 4 year college student right out of high school you're probably going to be very familiar with this set of Isis is classified as a through G and here are here's the breakdown of that pay for history you need two years English same as your graduation requirements you need for Maddox famous graduation you need three slides stipulation you need Algebra 1 geometry and Algebra 2 I know some of you might have come in and you started with you and geometry Algebra 2 baby stats or pre-calc that is perfectly fine okay let's look at science you need two years of a lab science day one physical and one life next Lori is language other than English you need two years of the same language okay so two years of Japanese two years of Mandarin or two years of Spanish Visual and Performing aren't you need one year and that's trauma Ceramics dance choir any of those visual or Performing Arts Larry dismiss tangent trying to tell me to hurry up I need to do and the last one is the G requirement that's just a college prep elective soap just important to know with a through G information UCS and CAL States would prefer that you have your the majority of your a through G garbage man by the end of your junior year now it doesn't mean that they won't accept you but you know there's a lot of people applying to CAL States and UCS in California and they can be more selective on the kids that day are the better chance of them being successful in their institution so you want to make sure that you have the majority of your a through G completed wouldn't hurt a would not hurt to make sure that you have an SAT or an act exam underneath your belly as well okay if you have any specific questions regarding CAL States you see that I highly recommend that you start poking around there their website if you haven't already done that most of you have already started to fill out your applications for your specific universities but it never her just to make sure that you have the correct information prior to use submitting your application to those universities okay how you guys Ines Sanchez I'm calcifer G through M & e l d students I'll be talking to you about post High School options as we know our goal is always to have our students go straight to a 4-year College like mr. Li you talked about with a through G however we do have some students that can't not go directly to a 4-year College it's okay we can always try to year of college Community College or a Career Tech I'm basically certificate programs for plumbing to be at basically a beautician or anything like that some choose to not do any to your college or Career Tech and actually I'm going straight to military a lot of our families have military family background a lot of them go straight to the military and in the military that can also attend college we also have some students that do not want to go to college or any type of Career Tech Ed programs and want to go straight into a job and took employment that is you no good to we have the correct Tech that also helps out with the worker's permit so if anything or have any questions regarding worker permit you can always email Stacey strictly law regarding that information any other questions please ask us at the end of the PowerPoint thank you do we get someone to do mrs. George is having some technical difficulties okay I'm ccgi and helps activate yours he can activate your ccgi account and apply to any school system it does allow you to explore college options by programs and Majors to study and become familiar with your college application it also allows you to look at any essays or the exams you may need to take once you're signed into ccgi you can access College and Career planning information take career assessment you can also watch all college application through ccgi you can import your coursework we onto your application by using ccgi and it could help prevent any errors that could otherwise delay or deny your admission it's a great tool for Expo exploration of College and Career so most students have signed an but if haven't definitely check out this program this is Vicky slide so the University of California they are 10 schools for the University of California you can access on the University ruc system through ccgi of the application deadline is November 1st through November 30th same with Cal Skate again go through ccgi to launch that application there are 23 schools in California for the Cal State system but I'm definitely check out us TCG I and you can see all the schools that they have there I clicked on a link here okay so I'm going to talk about Community ecologist this is something I know quite a bit about gone to a community college. I didn't go straight to a 4-year but so if you go to summer like msjc they have two year degree programs like water technology or nursing and that's where you can get your two year degree programs I'm a big thing about the Community College though is is there General ad you can do all your General in there that means your first two years of college you can do it at a community college with cool about this is that you get a perfect score on your SATs so the theory is that you have proven yourself so now you don't have to take him to give you an hour attic perfect score also it's much easier to transfer to a four-year College of your choice for myself right out of high school I could not have gone to you sell a butt after going to a two-year College I got a 3.9 GPA and I was able to go to UCLA I didn't go there but I could have if I wanted to they also have tech ed programs, like like digital media certificate programs like Fire Technology in medical assisting it really depends on what Community College you're going to if you choose Palomar San Bernardino Valley College wherever you choose to go you need to do a little bit of research and see what kind of programs they have if that's what you're interested in sorry baby. Career Tech now we have Career Tech and trade schools so let's just say you don't want to go straight to it for your clothes but you want to have some sort of a technical trade schools are designed to give students the tech the skills they need to prepare for a specific occupation so if you look over to the side with slique tea UTI ittt active Rye or fill them really think about it if you choose the schools and talk it over with your parents because they are costly but you know what my neighbor went to ITT Tech and he's doing very well and he likes it he's an electrician so it could be something that you're interested in okay and then another option would be that the United States military so the branches we have are the Air Force the Navy the Army the Marines in the National Guard so if you're interested in the military I talk to Miss Stacy today and she said to contact her and she'll let you know when they're going to have a presentation for that brand so let's say you want to join the Navy or maybe your kind of undecided and you want to join the Navy and the Army you can listen to both their presentations to talk about college and like how much my different College in what the process is to join I would suggest you get your parents involved though because that is a major commitment hi guys it's missing you sweetie talk to you about how are you going to pay for school so for those of you who are planning on pursuing College After High School or even if you're not sure yet very first thing that you do you shop and you fill out the FASFA or the free app Asian for federal student aid application you're going to need your parents help on it it's based on the previous years tax information from your parents and what it'll do is it will tell you how much money from the state and the federal government can be awarded to you based on your family's income whether that's grant money or love money the website that you go to is right there we workshop on this the other day and if you're a senior you probably had us in class last week as well working on the FSA ID we will have other workshops and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to any of us and we'll help you with your end no questions cuz it can be kind of tricky and it's a little overwhelming is a lot of information scholarships with scholarships are free money that you apply for on the scholarship coordinator at our site right now they're open the Elks Lodge scholarship so make sure checking and reading your parents where's for me and also checking my website on the All-Star High School website because I do send this information out and another thing about the fast and scholarship there's even if you think you're not going to be Gordon grant money because of family income most scholarships require you to apply for FAFSA first before you apply for the scholarship Grant we talked about that that's free money an institution the government will give you that you don't have to pay back and then work study is a program where you have a job on campus and they work with you while you're working on campus like in the library and or the cafeteria and that's how you're working to help pay for your tuition I want to talk to you guys about CalFresh benefits and we haven't talked about this in the past so when you go to a 4-year University and you're talking about housing and meal plans so housing is your dorm where you're going to live and meal plans is how you're going to eat so that usually kind of rope. Into one big plan can she's okay how many meals am I going to pay ahead of time to eat on campus in the food court so it can be really expensive but just so you guys know once you turn 18 you can apply for CalFresh benefits and there's a possibility that you could get a EBT or food stamps card so you don't have to purchase all of your meal through your meal plan you can go to places like Costco or when, or whatever grocery store is nearest to the university by you and by your own groceries as well. supplement your meal prep and it'll bring down your cost a lot if you are able to do that and it's not based on your parents income or anything like that as an 18 year old adult who is a student is based on your income we talked about scholarships little bit earlier there are so many scholarships available to you guys online and locally what is the coordinator for all of that I'm using a program that's listed on my website right now called going Merry and if you guys sign up for that I can help you track what scholarship you're feeling out at shows you what scholarships you should be filling out on the internet that are more specific to you and a lot of our local scholarships are also on that website to look at all of the applications the chief E Grant for foster children and it's for any child who has been in foster care on any amount of time up to one day before their 16th birthday so if you've ever been in foster care and you have not been adopted that is a separate scholarship that you can apply for that will help pay for your education scholarships for military dependents so your military it's not just the the post 9/11 GI Bill that they can use on themselves if they are a veteran and are signed up through the VA there's something called calvet where it helps you with your expenses and tuition for any school in so reach out if you want more info on that not all people know about that and there scholarships for different ethnicity groups are there scholarships for being left-handed there's a crazy scholarship for making your prom dress out of duct tape so there's a color tip for any kind of person that's got anything going on and then UOP the extended opportunity program through the colleges that you apply to and it's a part of like the cow stay in the UC applications as well and that's just another opportunity program that can help you like support you on campus provide you with fines or maybe technology or additional support so you guys want to sign up for all this stuff when you see it and it's an option on your applications questions so what we're going to do now is we are actually going to move on and Crystal Hoffman is going to she was Ras director so she's going to talk about senior activities and Senior swag and then at the end of the at the end of the presentation then we can open it up for questions when are you ready to stop sharing the screen on turn it off I'm going to go ahead and share mine if that's okay I was just going to show the website so I'm on the school website Hoffman and I'm the activities director on campus I just wanted to share with you if you click on a SBC we have all of the announcements for you know anyone that's given an announcement sports or clubs or anyone else within an ounce it would be listed here I'm a senior specific information is also on the website right under ASB if you click on seniors and like my computer is a little slower than so we are all the senior activities right now or on hold however I'm and that's why we haven't created a package yet because we hope to have more activities coming up but we do have a senior on the web store and officially launched today so if you want to get a senior shirt you just go to the web store and Order yours today this is the design and there's also all the other senior specific reminders on here are Herff Jones Rapids actually here tonight to share more information about Herff Jones with you but when she talks to you about the digital contact card and how to access that there's a link on our senior page directly to that for you that's how they get your information for your cap and gown and tassel how you order is all located here as well and like I said she has more flyers and more information that we will be sending out to you and that she'll be sharing tonight after me also we wanted to remind seniors to take their senior photos Cherished Memories is now booking appointments a link to that is here as well if you take those photos before Thanksgiving break using you're guaranteed to be included in the yearbook so make sure you get that done as soon as possible we also have included in here other and announcements that have come from Administration if their senior specifically try to include it on this page so they talked about community service hours all those have been waived this year and that there's a decrease in credits to graduate reminder to fill out your FAFSA anytime there's a faster Workshop if we get a flyer for it we post that for you as well and Miss Stacy who was just on is a great resource for all of that information you need a work permit you need help with your FAFSA those are the types of questions and things that she can assist you with so that we highly encourage you to reach out to her so she can get you going on all of your college apps and everything else so if hear me yeah alright well thank you and your welcome class of 2021 parents and family I get, the fun job you're amazing counselors get to get you to graduation and post-graduation and get to do fun stuff like this with you guys so you'll look like this it at graduation just many many years younger come down information we also have just fun 2021 swag and shine listen to my lovely front room of my house so that's always very exciting I we have the Flyers that I'm going to send it popped and won't put on the site that you might have seen I'm already but they basically look like this they show all of our packages which just groups everything together for he's but no fear you can also just just get things individually this year your cap gown tassel unit tax included has remained at $30 that's if you wish to purchase it and keep it the district and the school does still allow a borrow program and we will put that on the site as well you will have to fill a form out and then you'll have to return turn all of the items after graduation but that is available to you as well we also do this was last year's custom announcement basically is what this is this invitation to graduation it's just an announcement send out to family friends maybe grandparents on Sand uncles that live out of state to let them know you're graduating and they may or may not send something as a gift but it's just more of an announcement so we have those and they are specific for Elsinore with all of your information in there about graduation those are available deadline to sign up and do an online to borrow is more first and then the deadline to purchase is mahrez on April 9th right when you get back I think it's right after you guys get back from spring break so I think that's all I have and I have some other fun stuff this is all just senior swag fun blingy or big Stacks tassels also we have rings all of that kind of stuff I will more than happy to come out and meet people at the school at the school outside or in front of the school something that will probably set something up like that very soon hopefully even before school opens and you can go to Herff jones.com and you can put any president is Kami Wales I always forget to unmute and I'm the president at this is my second year I've been in PTA for a really long time I know that sometimes people think why is there PGA at the high school but we actually do a lot to help our seniors get ready we try to come alongside are freshmen sophomores and juniors as well it's definitely not like cupcakes and blue sticks and correcting papers the way it is maybe an elementary school or putting parties on and Junior High but they're still need I'm super proud of the fact that we the largest BCAA out of all the high schools in the district of we are always recognized with the most membership our board is huge my board has 15 people on it which is amazing so a couple of things that we do first ETA is not just at Altima high school it's election coming up there constantly lobbying on behalf of students and teachers and districts and public education I'm trying to get money there their Lobby on behalf of gun issue safety issues curriculum issues class size tons of stuff like that so when you join when when PJ has a Lobby can go and say we're representing public school and we have 9 million first they have to listen in California when we say we have two million members they listened so I know sometimes people wonder why do I have to keep joining but that's why because it does make a difference anyway so that's how I we do it we want everybody to know that in the past it elsewhere in the last few years something that our PTA is done is we worked really hard for some safety initiatives and placing some good drink water granola bars and things in each classroom in the event of an emergency such as an earthquake and two summers ago we have several earthquakes right before school started and we tried to at least put stuff in there that they would now that they can have so there's things that we're working on that we can do that that's still an Initiative for this year this year were working on in November we're trying to host a tiger night which will be future you care obviously change as everything has changed and how our kids are so incredibly resilient and that's just 10 we're going to take that's our take on this whole hot mess is how resilient our kiddos are going to become as adults and they're going to learn to not and so what kind of our goal of this event will be future you care things that we can do right now for you that will help them in the future so we'll be having a couple different topics that will be going over they'll be more information on that something else what we do is we work on senior scholarships last year we gave away $1,600 a year before that we gave away $1,700 in scholarship so far are teeny tiny little PTA that's really amazing that's just our school So speaking of scholarship seniors you have to join PTA to be eligible for a scholarship PTA membership is $10 it also is something is a National Organization also something that follows you on your college patience to say that you were part of a National Organization National Organization or for all four years or four this year makes a difference so but you do have to join seniors have to be member to be eligible so are high school gives out one our Council which is Elsinore District give the scholarship our district gives a scholarship the state gets three scholarship so they are really eligible for six different scholarships by joy and they're just turn on GPS collar I don't think you can't apply the application will be on and we won't be due until March March 23rd I believe is the date of our application how can you guys help be a part of helping you help you becoming a member are member numbers make a difference to us it's not a fundraising campaign we our membership has a $10 and we only retain $4 of that so not a whole lot that we get a retained to run our business that means I mean and then we have things to do we do put on we just had a recent Stadium family night participating little Stadium family night we met. $100 so that's a lot for us but it also is a really good thing especially in this time were in the kids run and pick up their Pizza they see someone I know several kids that are principles that it makes a difference they love to see a friendly face he might be in your mask but it still makes a difference Amazon smile we are on Amazon smile is if you purchase on Amazon it makes a huge difference for us it's for 250 Elsinore PTSA and if you purchased through Amazon purchase that I'm terrible at it but I'm getting back at going to Amazon smile on the website that mrs. Hoffman shared you go under resources click on resources then click down to parents then you'll click on PTSA and everything that I just talked about including we're currently running a Reflections art program anyone you do not remember to to submit piece of art there's all different selections that you can do it's a great thing for kids to have in seniors it's a great thing for you to also say it's just one more thing you got to put on your application so you can taste they didn't this National Art Contest so it's right on their reflection Super Simple Simon anyways but we haven't yet thank you Kami okay so at this point in the evening if you don't have any questions me of course thank you for coming class of 2021 we look forward to a great ending to our year if you do questions you're welcome to stay on board and will be will be happy to answer them so have a wonderful evening if you're leaving us and if not we'll be happy to take your questions
