Ms. de la Cruz

Welcome!  My name is Azucena de la Cruz and I am your student's AP Psychology or Psychology teacher.  I have been teaching at Elsinore High School for the past 7 years and I absolutely love it!  Prior to EHS I was a Social Studies teacher at Terra Cotta Middle School for 5 years.  In total I have been a teacher for the Lake Elsinore Unified School District for 12 years.  I have also been a basketball coach for many years at EHS and currently I am an Assistant Coach for the MiraCosta College Women's Basketball Program in Oceanside.  I serve as the Director of Recruitment.  MiraCosta College is a 2-year California Community College and coaching there has been a blast!  In my free time I enjoy reading, going to the beach, basketball, hiking, fitness, hip hop music, scrapbooking, and hanging out with friends and family.

EHS holds a special place in my heart as I am an alumnus.  It's fun to teach where I attended school!  I graduated from EHS in 2001 and then furthered my education at the University of Redlands from 2001-2005.  I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History with minors in Spanish, Government, and Economics in 2005.  I absolutely loved my undergraduate experience at the University of Redlands and decided to complete a California Teaching Credential in History-Social Science in 2006 and a Master of Arts Degree in Education in 2011 from there as well.

As a teacher I believe in academic rigor, the development of critical thinking skills, and the importance of hard work.  I look forward to getting to know your student and helping him/her on their academic journey here at Elsinore High School.  My ultimate goal is to prepare them for life after high school whether that be a 4 year college, a community college, vocational school, or the military.  Please feel free to contact me at any time.  Go Tigers!

Barrons Example

Here is the Barrons example.  Be sure to get the 8th edition of the Barrons AP Psychology test prep book.  You can find it on Amazon or at Barnes and Noble.  If there is an issue with getting the book, please let me know ASAP and I will figure something out.

KEY TERMS definition/application example

Here is the example I showed you today about how to complete your key terms that are listed on your Unit 1 Sheet:  Social Psychology.  Remember you will need to
1.  Set up your KEY TERMS in Cornell Note form style.  No need to come up with questions on the left section as is typically done in a traditional Cornell Note form assignment.
2.  In the left section write down the number of the term and what page number you found the term on.
3.  In the right section write down the word "DEFINITION" for each term and write down the definition of the term used in the textbook.  Highlight the word "DEFINITION" in blue.
4.  In the right section, underneath the definition you wrote down, write down the word "APPLICATION" and apply the term's definition to a "real life" example.  Highlight the word "APPLICATION" in orange.

*KEY TERMS are very important to complete as they help prepare you to be successful on the Free Response Questions (FRQ's) of the AP Psychology exam.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  I am happy to help.
